Other names: second-generation Hoveyda-Grubbs catalyst, [1,3-bis-(2,4,6-trimethylphenyl)-2-imidazolidinylidene]dichloro(o-isopropoxyphenylmethylene)ruthenium
The second-generation Hoveyda-Grubbs catalyst is a ruthenium-based complex that combines the stability of a chelating o-isopropoxybenzylidene ligand with the enhanced reactivity of an N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) ligand. This modification improves catalyst longevity and efficiency in olefin metathesis, particularly in challenging reactions. Its structure features a ruthenium center coordinated to an o-isopropoxybenzylidene ligand, an NHC ligand, and two chloride ligands. In its pure form, Hoveyda-Grubbs Gen2 appears as a vivid green crystalline solid.
