Although cylopentadienyl rings are far and away the premier 'bread' for making sandwich compounds, most arene rings (including benzene) are capable of sandwich complexation. In fact, bis(benzene)chromium was likely unknowingly synthesized by organometallic chemists some 50 years before the structure of ferrocene was ever elucidated.
